Myself and my mural collective Cobolt painted a 22x22 meter mural in 2019 for Glasgow Doors Open Days to help celebrate their 30 year anniversary. It depicts iconic Glasgow buildings that have featured in the GDODF programme over the years and a section of the poem, ‘The Bargain’, by Liz Lochhead. The mural celebrates the buildings which have historically made up the Glasgow Doors Open Days programme. The festival is an opportunity for people to exchange stories and share memories about the city and the mural is a tribute to the ethos of the festival and the spirit of the people who have enjoyed the festival over the last 30 years.

Glasgow has a wealth of incredible buildings, showcasing a diverse range of architecture from intricate carved stone, to imposing, concrete brutalist shapes. This great mix holds up a mirror to its people who are made up of many varied groups but who together share a love for the city and what it means to be Glaswegian. This sentiment is echoed in the exert from ‘The Bargain’ by Glaswegian poet, Liz Lochhead, “Yes today we are in love, aren’t we? With the whole splintering city”. A source of civic pride, the mural commemorates the city’s rich history and diverse culture. It is an ode to Glasgow and a gift to the city from its people.
